This is Day 5. You can return to the Start here > DAFNE Course Review
Day 5 is a half day session that rounds off the course.
Individual Dose Adjustment / Action Plans
See DAFNE Course Day 2 for more details about this exercise.
Topic: Action Planning.
On Day 1 we wrote down in our course workbooks our goals as we saw them at the outset with no real knowledge of what the DAFNE course was about. Today we write next to our goals what we plan to do next to achieve those goals. It’s hard to be specific but this little exercise sets the scene for the coming weeks of using the techniques we have learnt.
Next, a quiz to test our knowledge and show us the things we have missed.
We arrange to meet for a follow up in 6 weeks to check our progress.
Topic: User Group and DAFNE Online.
We are introduced to the DAFNE User Group (DUG) and DAFNE Online.
The DUG are DAFNE graduates who agree to have their contact details put on file to be contacted to provide information of experiences in particular situations and other ad hoc information. They can also be invited to research groups, and ad hoc groups such as focus groups.
DAFNE Online is a website www.dafneonline.co.uk developed by DAFNE graduates to provide information to people with Type 1 diabetes and their families.
One particularly useful feature is that the carbohydrate book in available as part of a DAFNE Online App for mobile devices like a smartphone or iPod. This allows you to highlight favorite foods for quickly finding things you eat regularly and to add your own foods too.
Part of the App is your DAFNE diary where you can enter your blood glucose readings, CPs, insulin doses and correction figures. Using an iPod 4th Gen I had trouble trying to uploading my data to DAFNE online so that is not something I will not use at the moment.
That concludes a very interesting and beneficial week. In order to simplify finding my correct background insulin I refrained from drinking alcohol for 4 days and as a byproduct of carb counting I skipped the snacks that I would normally indulge in.
It’s common for my weight to fluctuate over a week by a few pounds and this week it dropped 3 pounds and for the first time in decades I am in the OK region of the weight / height chart. I am glad I came! But will it last?
